Alūksne New Palace
In the very heart of Alūksne, next to the picturesque lake, there is Alūksne New Palace and the Manor Park. The palace, built in the late Tudor Neo-Gothic style in the second half of the 19th century by order of Baron Alexander Joseph von Vietinghoff, is one of the most remarkable architectural monuments in Latvia. Inside the castle there are various architectural styles – artistic wall and ceiling paintings, some of which are exposed.
In the cozy premises of the castle there is an Alūksne Museum with expositions of Alūksne cultural and historical heritage and the Nature Museum “Vides labirints” (“Environmental Labyrinth”)..
Adjacent to the castle, the Manor Park is designed as a natural landscape park, which serves as a great choice for a peaceful walk. It is surrounded by small architectural masterpieces such as the Alexander Pavilion, the Aeolus Temple, the Bird Pavilion, the Granite Obelisk, the Pomona Temple, the Baron’s Mausoleum, fountains and granite benches.
