Markets and local goods in Alūksne

The market tradition has been very pronounced in Alūksne since the 18th century. There was once a market square next to the Alūksne Evangelical Lutheran Church, where there was a lot of trading on the weekends. In the nearby building- market pavilion, where nowadays is the Bible Museum, the locals used to have traded fresh meat products.
However, today you will find various researched local goods in the Alūksne market– fishes, bread, honey, horticultural plants and other goods grown and taken care of by the locals and residents nearby. The market is open every day except Sundays. Good offers are here on Saturday mornings.
Just nearby, from the April till the late October, the brightest garden flowers can be purchased at the Gardening centre “Sprogas”. During these months, the square near the market turns into a flower and plant paradise for every gardener. Visitors are greeted by colorful widows and lions, as well as brightly colored petunias that will decorate every backyard.
Arriving in the city, before going for a walk, we invite everyone to stop at 9B Pils street, where you can buy juicy strawberries at the points of sale, which will be refreshed in the summer heat. During the winter season, a variety of meat and fish smoked meats are also available, which will allow you to better prepare a delicious dinner.
The widest range of products is available at Aluksne fairs. In recent years, they have become a popular and extensive event, where visitors can enjoy the magic of trade, get acquainted with the offer of craftsmen, home producers, as well as farmers. Taste the fair classic – gingerbread and freshly baked, warm bread.
