Alūksne Bānītis station quarter
One of the best ways to explore the city is to go for a walk. The industrial surroundings of Alūksne railway station offer a special cultural, culinary and architectural experience.
This development of a part of the city is related to the construction and opening of the narrow-gauge railway line Pļaviņas-Valka in 1903, when the Alūksne-Litene highway was built here, station buildings were built, a railway hotel was opened and later the impressive grain elevator was opened. The bustle here has not stopped and it becomes quite dynamic every time when here stops the only narrow-gauge train that runs regulary in the Baltics – “Ferdinands”.
The special atmosphere of the quarter is given by the internationally awarded multimedia exposition “Alūksne Bānītis Station”, which is located in the historical luggage shed of the station. Just as Banitis once connected Alūksne with Europe, the Burger cafe “Tvaiks x Ogle” allows you to go on a journey of world tastes, enjoying the nuances of food from near and far countries. The cozy “Bahnhofs Hotel”. has been open in the historic railway hotel building since 2019. The station quarter is also a great place to start your trip around the charming Alūksne, enjoying an exciting ride on the city train “Severīns”.
In Alūksnes Bānītis station quarter, which is currently developing with great capacity, another building has been built “BUSINESS station”– for business development. Alūksnes craft beer is made here, Eels preserves of Lake Alūksne are made, ceramic and mixed materials interior design items are produced, graphic design and visual advertising production, printing and assembly services are provided here.
