The history of the Liepna Orthodox Church dates back to the 1960s and 1970s. At that time, there was a massive conversion of Catholics to Orthodoxy. In 1866 the Franciskpole Catholic wooden chapel was given over to the orthodox and it was changed into the orthodox church. The former Franciskopole church according to the order of the government in 1920 was given to the catholic parish. Liepna Orthodox church was destroyed by fire during World war II. After the war there was a church put up in Liepna. It was built in 1896 and transported to Liepna from Mālupe.
