Horse watering hole
Alūksne is the symbolic landscape of Latvia with Malenese accents on the shore of Lake Alūksne.
Here malenians greet at the resting place “Horse watering hole”, where in the 18th and 19th centuries near the ancient road, there was a place set up for the purpose of the horse post, where the horses could refresh themselves after the long journey. As time went on, the local people, malenians, stopped here with horse-drawn carts, who fell in love with this place and stayed here.
Sunsets and foggy mornings on the lake should be enjoyed right here. The sunsets here are the highest and best seen, but when the days get warm and the nights are still cool, the lake comes alive and a mysterious mist covers it. The shallow area, once used for watering horses, is suitable for swimming and short walks along the water.
