The lakes on the Alūksne side are traditionally the first places to start the ice fishing season and the last ones to end it in the spring.

The most adventurous ice anglers from all over Latvia and neighboring countries everu wintertime come to Lake Alūksne. Here, the main catch in the winter season is perch of different sizes, but the most skillful and masterful anglers will also catch some rapeseed, impressive pikeperch, pike or whitefish, but with spring approaching, the role will be more and more frequent.
