The Space for Technology and Art “Elevators” Opens Its Doors in Alūksne

The Alūksne Bānītis Station Quarter, which has become a popular destination for industrial heritage and railway history enthusiasts, has been enriched with a new tourist attraction – the Space for Technology and Art “Elevators”. Located in a historic grain elevator, it blends technical heritage with a contemporary art experience.

What makes the Space for Technology and Art “Elevators” truly special is its home — a historic building in Alūksne that is an important piece of industrial heritage in its own right, creating a unique atmosphere for every visitor.

Across the building’s three floors, tech enthusiasts and antique lovers will be delighted by an extensive collection of retro automobiles reflecting various eras of automotive history and vehicle development. Alongside the motor vehicles and an impressive steam locomotive, other historical equipment and everyday items are on display, revealing how daily life has evolved over the decades.

An entire floor of the historic grain elevator is dedicated to the story of the Alūksne region. Here, every artifact and story is closely tied to Alūksne and its surroundings.

At the same time, “Elevators” reflects the belief that technology and art complement each other perfectly. This is not just a display of machinery, but also a subtly crafted art space. The industrial setting and historical exhibits are harmoniously enhanced by the artworks of local native Teodors Paulovics and paintings by artist Herberts Ernests Siliņš, allowing visitors to enjoy both technical heritage and artistic aesthetics in one place.
