Jaunlaicene Manor park

Surrounded by hills and lakes is the legacy of the von Wolf family – the Jaunlaicene Manor Park with an area of ​​9 hectares. The park with well-maintained trails is a great opportunity to continue to feel the legacy left by the German Barons von Wolf and perhaps even their presence. The Barons von Wolf family have been the owners of the manor for 170 years.

Johann Gottlieb Wolf II was the first to create the park. The park contained a group of seven trees (oaks), one for each son, given to him by his wife Maria Clementina. These trees, which symbolized the closeness of the brothers, still stand in the park today.

In the 18th century, Johann Gottlieb II’s son, Joseph Wolf, created a large pond at the back of the house with an island in the center, on which he built a summer house. It became the summer residence for his teenage sons.

The park had several terraces, two fountains, shady walking paths. There were also water taps. The park was watered and maintained by a gardener and three boys.

Of the manor buildings built in the 18th and 19th centuries, 16 have survived, and Jaunlaicene Manor Museumhas been established in one of them. The father of the family, Johann Gottlieb II, designed the manor as a cozy family home, without ostentatious luxury, creating a “small city” in front of the windows of the house.

The outbuildings, which were conveniently located close to the house, were cleverly surrounded by trees and shrubs, giving guests the impression of an extended park rather than a farm property.
